**The PowerDNS.ORG useful names** Last updated: 17th of December 2017 / [@PowerDNS_Bert](https://twitter.com/powerdns_bert) powerdns.org useful names ========================= To help debug DNS issues, PowerDNS hosts a number of useful domain names. These come in three groups: **v4.powerdns.org** is reachable over IPv4 only, **v6.powerdns.org** only via IPv6 and finally **lua.powerdns.org**, reachable over both. The last one is useful to determine the preference of your resolver, while the first two are nice if you want to know about a specific IP version. While many other names are available to look up similar details (whoami.akamai.net, o-o.myaddr.l.google.com), as far as we know, powerdns.org is the only one that offers separate IPv4 and IPv6 service. And as a bonus, our names are actually DNSSEC signed! This service is based on the PowerDNS Authoritative Server 4.1.1 Lua records as described in [this blog post](https://blog.powerdns.com/2017/12/15/powerdns-authoritative-lua-records/), and documented [here](https://powerdns.org/auth-4.1.1-docs/lua-records.html). Records ------- Available for all three: * whoami.lua.powerdns.org TXT * whoami.v4.powerdns.org TXT * whoami.v6.powerdns.org TXT * whoami.v4.powerdns.org A * whoami.v6.powerdns.org AAAA These return the IPv4 or IPv6 address your resolver used to contact us, either as TXT or as A/AAAA for specific protocol. * whoami-port.lua.powerdns.org TXT * whoami-port.v4.powerdns.org TXT * whoami-port.v6.powerdns.org TXT As whoami, but now including port number. Useful to discover bad source port randomization, or NAT-caused derandomization * whoami-ecs.lua.powerdns.org TXT * whoami-ecs.v4.powerdns.org TXT * whoami-ecs.v6.powerdns.org TXT Textual representation of the IP address your resolver used, plus if present, contents of the EDNS Client Subnet option * header.lua.powerdns.org TXT * header.v4.powerdns.org TXT * header.v6.powerdns.org TXT Shows various flags and DNS parameters your resolver used. Includes DNSSEC Ok bit, CD, RD, AA, TCP or UDP, EDNS specified buffer size. Available only via IPv4 (for now): * latlon.v4.powerdns.org TXT * latlon.v4.powerdns.org LOC Indication of where the MaxMind database thinks the IP address of your resolver is located, or if there is an EDNS Client Subnet option, where that subnet is located And, just for fun, if you want to get the time: * time.lua.powerdns.org TXT The current time, DNSSEC signed, in UTC
